DEAR SIR

Air Traffic Nightmare

ACCORDING to your editorial (Air Traffic Nightmare, Majorca Daily Bulletin December 8), the air traffic controllers “are amongst the most unpopular people in the country (after Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero!)”.

I trust the Prime Minister will have gone up a few places in the national popularity stakes, after his decisive action at the weekend ( which did not seem to meet with your approval in your previous editorial, Striking Out, Majorca Daily Bulletin, December 7).

You were concerned about the image the use of the army will give Spain abroad. I would have thought that such action will have the effect of improving the government's image.

After all, Spanish air space might have been closed for several days (instead of for little more than 24 hours) had the authorities dithered about how to deal with the situation. What a national and international disaster that would have been! Yours faithfully,
