DEAR SIR

Conspiracy Theories
LAST week in London two men voluntarily presented themselves to the police. Julian Assange under an extradition warrant for questioning over the sexual assault of a Swedish woman - bail denied.

Shrien Dewani under an extradition warrant for questioning over the murder of his Swedish wife – bail allowed.
Little wonder the conspiracy theories against the WikiLeaks founder thrive.

DEAR SIR

I would like to comment on an article in last Saturday's edition, “Calvia's 2011 budget means 17% tax hike”.
I think it is very important to point out that this increase is in fact nothing to do with the PP council budget as the increases are due to factors not under the control of the council.

They are the ratable value of property (IBI) and rubbish disposal costs, both imposed on all local councils by other government entities.
As far as those taxes that are directly decided by Calvia council, they have remained the same for a number of years now and are “frozen” for the 2011 budget.

Yours, John Rule
