Face coverings are already mandatory on public transport.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said stricter rules on wearing face coverings may be needed and that he would like to see them worn more frequently in shops in England, where - unlike in Scotland - they are optional.

“I do think we need to be stricter in insisting that people wear face coverings in confined places where they are meeting people that they don’t normally meet,” Johnson said in a pre-recorded question-and-answer session with the public.

“So that’s why it’s mandatory already on public transport, and we’re looking at ways of making sure that people really do observe when you do have face coverings in shops for instance where ... there is a risk of transmission,” he added.

Dawn Scotland: Scotland has led the way? 2.500 corona deaths is not leading the way dear. If there are any countries that have led the way, I think of Vietnam, Taiwan, Cambodia, Laos & Thailand. 0 death in Vietnam, on a 96 million population. Now, that is what I call leading the way. They were prepared and took measures at the first signs, while here in Europe we thought it was something Asian and far away and laughed it away.

The problem is looking at figures issued are misleading Official WHO data has China with only 85487 and 4648 deaths so that tells you a lot about the WHO And Dawn if you think the snp figures are correct , look at the national records for Scotland and explain why there has been 4706 more deaths than the previous year compared to the 2490 that they are claiming And why all of a sudden now do we think we need face masks Total joke people gather germs in mask and no doubt touch the mask all the time where there is a build of germs then touch door handles , plates of food as they serve etc

Unfortunately we're not too hot on education in Scotland which is perhaps why Dawn didn't read andunderstand the article properly.

What the UK needs is a sensible Prime Minister - one who for starters, actually bothers combing his hair when addressing the nation on something as serious as Coronavirus.

Your reporting is false! It is not optional to wear face masks in shops in Scotland it is mandatory ! Get your facts right in future ! Scotland has always led the way, that’s why we are doing so much better in the pandemic.

For god’s sake Boris, stop pussy footing around and make a law about it and enforce it. What we are hearing from Family and friends in the UK makes everyone I know here shudder. It’s a mess there. Highest mortality per head of population of the 20 most affected nations, by a long margin. That’s official WHO data. The prospect of UK visitors was worrying enough, but now they’ll have to wear masks in public, and mandatory? But will they?
