The 112 Balearic Emergency Centre last month received a total of 48'249 telephone calls, 1'556 per day, with some 86 per cent of the queries being dealt with in less than 15 seconds. According to the centre, the bulk of the calls are received between 1pm and 9pm and thanks to a CAD communications system, calls are readily diverted to the relevant Balearic police forces, fire, medical and rescue services. The majority of calls were passed on to the Local Police, but the 112 centre, which was set up in 1996 as the first centre of its kind in Spain, is also linked to the National Police and Guardia Civil.
