After days of tit-for-tat local politics, with threats and counterthreats being made over the water crisis, the Balearic Environment Minister, Margalida Rossello, who is at the centre of the row, last night gave ground after Chief Minister Francesc Antich earlier in the day called on her to come up with a list of solutions “once and for all.” Rossello agreed to the government's stance to examine “all” the avenues, including increasing production at the desalination plant if that is what it takes to find a solution to the water crisis before the summer, a proposal which, until last night, she was prepared to withdraw from the left-wing coaliton pact over. The development is a step in the right direction for Antich, who yesterday made it clear that he was not going to be held to ransom in a bid to find the best solution to the water problem.
