The Balearic Institute for Tourism (Ibatur), will this year contribute more than 100 million pesetas on activities to promote tourism in Minorca, along with the Insular Council. The president of the Minorcan Council, Joana Barcelo, who manages the tourism area of the insular body explained yesterday that the principal objective will be to put in motion the de-seasoning process for the low season, since the island is at maximum occupation during the summer months. Among the projects envisaged are promotional agreements with the German tour operator TUI and the major national operators Mundicolor and Club de Vacaciones; there are also plans to insert a 16-page promotional supplement in the British newspaper The Times. Ibatur will also collaborate with Mundicolor and Club de Vacaciones to organise presentations in Madrid, Barcelona, Alicante, Valencia, Zaragoza, Galicia and the Basque Country. Barcelo said that the president of the Balearic Government, Francesc Antich, and the councillor for Tourism, Celesti Alomar, will meet with six of the major German tour operators on March 14, at the ITB trade fair, to review the market forecast for the season 2000.
