The maze of roadworks in the heart of Palma has come under attack from the President of the Balearic Federation of Shopkeepers (Afedeco) who yesterday said that the lack of co-ordination and information about the roadworks has had a detrimental effect on shop takings in Palma. Pau Bellinfante yesterday called on the City Council to organise the roadworks with more thought and co-ordination, telling the council that shopkeepers in certain areas of the city, where lengthy roadworks are going on, have witnessed revenues drop sharply. The labyrinth of construction work in the city could not have come at a worse time for Palma shopkeepers. When Bellinfante produced the annual Christmas, New Year and winter sales report, many shopkeepers said that takings were down and that the sales had failed to make up for the festive shortfall.
