Three people died and two others were seriously injured in an horrific traffic accident on the Via Cintura, opposite the Pryca exit, yesterday, during the early-morning rush-hour. For reasons which are still unknown a Renault-5 left the left-side dual carriageway, crossed the grass verge and collided with an on-coming Nissan Patrol and a Ford Transit. Driver and passenger of the Renault, named as Moroccan Mohamed H., 37, and another Moroccan (who has not been identified), died along with the driver of the Nissan Patrol who has been named as Antonio T.R. aged 40. Driver and passenger of the Ford van, named as Spaniards Manuel A.A., 43, and Manuel G.B. 28, are in a serious condition at a Palma hospital. The Civil Guard were forced to close the Via Cintura briefly so that they could allow the wreckage from the crash to be cleared. Police were yesterday talking to eye-witnesses to try and discover why the Renault-5 crossed lanes. This latest accident comes at a time when Balearic roads are claiming a growing death toll. In the early hours of Saturday morning a man was killed in another traffic accident, bringing the death toll to four in 48 hours.
