An air sea rescue helicopter was forced to rescue a German walker from the Torrent de Pareis near Escorca yesterday after the hiker broke her ankle while on an excursion. The alarm was raised at 11am yesterday and firemen from Inca, Soller and Lluchmajor headed to the area with the support of the Guardia Civil and Red Cross from Soller. However, the accident occured an hour's walk in to the area and the rescue service had to call on the back up of a rescue helicopter. Just after mid-day, the helicopter plucked the German walker to safety and transfered the victim to Son Dureta hospital in Palma. The Torrent de Pareis is an extremely popular destination with walkers but is also the scene of frequent incidents every year and the rescue services yesterday reminded people to be careful and well prepared when walking in the area.
