A british tourist named as Gary Brian M, aged 34, has been arrested by Palma police and may face charges of attempted murder, after allegedly trying to throw his companion over a hotel balcony in the resort of Palma Nova. The police have only just released details of the case, which occurred last Wednesday. Sources say that the police were told that a 30-year-old foreign woman was in a private hospital in Palma, after a fight with her companion. She told them that they had had a quarrel and he had thrown her over the balcony. Their hotel room in Palma Nova was on the first floor and she fell from a height of about four metres. The man was arrested at the hospital, where he had gone to enquire after his companion's condition. Doctors said that her injuries, were less serious than had been feared, and were mainly extensive bruising and scrapes. Sources say that the woman, who is also British, told the police they had both been drinking heavily. Police were unable to take a statement from the man as there was no interpreter available. He told his side of the story directly to the judge.
