Andratx market traders went home emptyhanded yesterday after thousands of clients were unable to get to the market because of the on-going Calvia and Andratx bus strike. Normally on Wednesdays, between 2'000 and 2'5000 people catch the bus from the Port of Andratx to the market, but yesterday there were neither buses nor enough taxis. Market traders selling clothes, leather goods and other non-perishables said yesterday that takings were as low as just six or seven per cent, a few even said that they had not even been able to cover their costs of pitching their stall. Local police were on hand at the key taxi ranks, where there were continuous queues of between 25 and 30 people, but there were no incidents just a lot of angry frustrated local residents and tourists.
