THE Mayor of Palma Joan Fageda yesterday opened a new Local Police office along the Playa de Palma which will be open to the public 24 hours per day. According to the city council the office has been opened to cope with the ever increasing police activities in the area during the summer and will help to co-ordinate more effective policing. The mayor said that the office will help improve the quality of policing along the Playa de Palma and doors will be open between 6am and 10pm over the summer, although the office will be manned around the clock. Fageda said that the council has made a great effort in order to increase security in the area and that this year's Local Police summer operation started a month earlier along the Playa de Palma. The mayor said that the new office will target petty crime, prostitution, street vendors, illegal advertising, ticket touts, noise and that bars and clubs obey opening hours. The Local Police will also be working closer with the National Police force in the area in the war against drugs and holding regular meetings with resident associations.
