The 1'708 kilos of hashish seized by the Guardia Civil in Balearic waters off Formentera this week onboard a yacht chartered out of Palma, was destined for a pick up point on the mainland in the Ebro Delta, according to the Guardia Civil serious crime and narcotics squad. The 50 plus bags of hashish have been held in Palma since yesterday morning and this morning investigators from the central government Health department will be arriving in Palma to examine the drugs' purity. The bust was part of Operation Jaume, which has now been closed, which was launched last month. The four men arrested on board the yacht Boogie are still being held in custody and are expected to stand trial in Ibiza. According to the police, this is not the first shipment the gang has picked up off the coast of Morocco using vessels chartered out of Palma. The drugs are thought to have been destined for the Spanish and western Mediterranean markets. The police have traced the gang's connection to the Ebro Delta where a drugs smuggling syndicate had a carefully organised infrastructure in operation.
