The showdown between Balearic Chief Minister Francesc Antich and his predecessor, Minister for Environment Jaume Matas, is looming and yesterday Antich called for an urgent meeting with Matas to discuss the region's water problems and to reach a set of joint solutions. Antich yesterday visited the newly installed desalination plants in Andratx, Calvia and Palma and used the official tour as a platform to throw down the gauntlet to Matas. Antich said he wants to sit down with Matas and hear “once and for all” when the Balearic Water Plan will be approved so that the Balearic government can get started with its plans for the future of the region's water supplies.
