German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder will return to work today after he left Majorca yesterday at the end of his summer holiday on the island which started on July 26. He and his wife Doris and their daughter have spent the past three weeks staying at a private villa near Santa Maria and have tried to keep a low profile while on the island, but the family gave in to media pressure from Germany and allowed a set of pictures to be taken of the couple to mark Doris's birthday. The Chancellor also appeared at a string of photo calls with the Balearic Chief Minister, the leader of the Spanish opposition and the King of Spain, who joked to the press about Schroeder having had enough pictures taken. Today Gerhard Schroeder will attend the funeral of some of the victims killed in last month's tragic Concorde crash which occurred less than 24 hours before he arrived in Majorca. He flew to Majorca straight from a memorial service in Hanover and returns to attend the funerals. Tomorrow he will embark on an official visit to Eastern Germany.
