Raw sewage is flowing into the Bay of Puerto Pollensa at four points, according to the local political group Union Mollera Pollencina. The politicial group, which is represented on the council, claims that Pollensa hasn't the necessary public infrastructure to cope with the influx of tourists and the sewage treatment network is not up to scratch. The situation has become so serious that the police have been forced to cordon off part of the beach and stop bathers swimming because of the health fears. This is one of the reasons why the Moll beach, the biggest in Pollensa, failed to win the coveted blue flag for excellence from the European Union this year. A Pollensa town news-letter earlier this summer warned bathers of the dangers of bathing because of the sewage problem. The Pollensa political party is calling on the council to take urgent action to resolve the problem.
