In just over the past 12 months the Guardia Civil have investigated eight rape cases in Calvia. On June 19 last year, a tourist was sexually attacked during a night out in the area. The following month three Norwegian holidaymakers sexually assaulted a fellow tourist and in September of last year an Irishman forced his partner into endulging in sexual activities. In April of this year a British tourist and her daughter were both raped on wasteground near a Magalluf supermarket and in June a mother was sexually attacked in front of her two young children as she went for an early evening stroll in Son Caliu and in July two Britons attacked a waitress in the area. The photofit below is believed to be one of the men wanted in connection with the sexual attack on the British mother and daughter who after their ordeal had the courage to retrace their steps in a bid to try and locate and identify their assailants. Eight rape cases in the past 14 months will not do much for Calvia's image. Earlier this summer a Scotsman's wife was dragged to the ground and suffered severe head injuries when a thief snatched her bag as the couple were out for a stroll with two friends. The whole affair was deeply distressing for the couple who were celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary in Palmanova. Both the husband and wife were well travelled and were shocked that such a thing should happen in Majorca and nobody was giving tourists any kind of warning to be careful.
