The fatal triple accident along the Paseo Maritimo in Palma early Friday morning and the tragic death of an 84-year-old who was run down, brought the total number of road deaths in the Balearics this year to 107, according to figures released by the head of the Traffic Police. This month alone, 23 lives have been lost on the Balearics' roads, two more than during September last year. However, last year a total o 155 people were killed on the region's roads and according to the Traffic Police, the number of fatalities by the end of this year is expected to show a decrease in comparison to last year. Police figures indicate that by the end of the year, 132 people will have died in traffic accidents. But there has been an increase in the number of people aged under 25 killed on the roads. This year 43 percent of the fatalities have been under 25, last year the percentage was 41 percent. In Ibiza, the under 25 age group has so far accounted for half of the island's road victims. 27 of the victims have been foreigners this year and of the seven road deaths in Majorca 90 per cent have been tourists.
