The President of Greenpeace, Xavier Pastor, launched a broadside against Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar for allowing nuclear warships to moor in Spanish terroritorial waters or next to the Spanish coastline. “We are not against the U.S. Navy or warships and our protest in not against the military. It is simply that we do not believe in nuclear warships. They shouldn't exist.” Pastor was speaking yesterday ahead of today's protest against the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier George Washington which is moored in the Bay of Palma. This morning a flotilla of yachts and other small craft will sail out to the warship. The George Washington is due to leave port at 2p.m. this afternoon.
