Television personality John Noakes, who established a reputation with Blue Peter as the show's action man, combining extraordinary feats of pluck and bravery with his Yorkshire humour, visited the troubled Centro Canino animal refuge in Palma yesterday to give the campaign to raise funds for a new home a boost. Noakes, who has lived on the island near Andratx, for a number of years, is a known animal lover. He lent his voice to the famous Andrex toilet paper adverts and is currently promoting an adopt a dog campaign in the UK, so lending his support to a campaign to save the animal refuge comes as second nature. Noakes is also going to host a special auction which the centre is organising for early March to raise extra funds. In addition, he has given a book for which he wrote the foreword and a teddy bear donated by Charlie Dimcock, the gardening goddess of the small screen in Britain.
