The UM (Majorcan Union) representatives on the Palma city council have drawn up a document for debate, with proposals for solving the problems affecting the popular Playa de Palma. It will be introduced at the council's next plenary session as a proposal. The paper points to planning chaos with bars and discos next to blocks of flats, lack of amenities, poor security, cleaning problems and a ruined coast line just a few of the problems listed. THe UM offers solutions to all the problems. On security, the paper calls for greater collaboration and co-ordination between the various administrations. As to keeping the popular resort cleaner, the paper calls on the council to enforce the existing regulations. Public transport should be improved in an effort to ease traffic congestion, and a special plan should be drawn up to define future development. In recent years, efforts have been made to improve security on the Playa de Palma in summer with increased foot patrols and police on horseback and bicycle.
