The fire brigade and fire experts are still investigating the cause of the blaze which destroyed a paint warehouse in the Can Valero industrial estate of Palma on Sunday. Firemen believe that it started in the drying shed, where there is a turbine engine and heat system, where shutters, doors and fences which have just been painted are dried. Company spokesman Luis Horacio Elsaser said that two warehouses were completely gutted and it was too soon to put a figure to damages, but other sources said that they could easily run to 40 million pesetas. Three men were working overtime to fill an order on Sunday but they were unable to extinguish the fire. They managed to leave the premises unaided and were uninjured. An adjacent cafeteria was evacuated and a neighouring garage and warehouse sustained some damage, caused by the intense heat. Firemen fought the blaze for three hours. The premises were fully insured.
