At the next parliamentary session, the opposition Partido Popular party intends to present a motion aimed at cracking down on the weekend abuse of cocaine and designer drugs. The PP said yesterday that it will call for immediate action to be taken in order to resolve the problem which is on the increase in the Balearics among young people. The PP will remind the left wing coalition pact that the previous PP government approved an Autonomous Drugs Plan which was the first step towards the introduction of a new autonomous law which would involve all the local institutions in the battle against designer drugs. The PP will table the motion at the next meeting and will also insist that the Balearic government acts on the proposal within a period of three months. A study into drug abuse and use last year, revealed that the problems are on the rise in the Balearics, in particular in Majorca and Minorca. There is growing concern about the designer drug industry with a record number of ecstasies being seized in the Balearics last year.
