“And a nightingale sang in Miguel Capplonch Square” doesn't sound quite right, but last Saturday evening the notes coming from Puerto Pollensa's church in Miguel Capplonch square made it all perfectly believable. The occasion was a concert given by soprano Kate Gannon and pianist Questa Turner in aid of the Pollensa Animal Refuge, and the audience who filled every seat in the church were left applauding and asking for more when it was all over. With its mix of grand opera arias and lighter music (including Sherwin's “A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square”) all tastes were catered for, and Kate Gannon's beautiful voice really made use of the vaulted surroundings.
