Better late than never and ahead as the Easter influx of tourist starts, with many of the seasonal flight programmes between the United Kingdom and Ibiza starting to take off, Ibiza airport authorities yesterday ordered that foot-and-mouth controls be enforced. Airport director Gonzalo Aguaron yesterday met representatives from the Ibiza Council for Agriculture, the security forces and tour operators in order to finalise how the foot-and-mouth controls can be implemented at the airport and ports without disrupting Easter tourism and merchant traffic. All visitors arriving from the United Kingdom and other infected countries will enter the airport through a single arrivals gate where they will be disinfected and have their luggage checked for fresh meat or meat products and fresh dairy or dairy products - the only goods which are not allowed to be taken out of the UK.
