Majorcan farmers are threatening to prevent ministry of agriculture experts from testing cows which die on their farms for mad cow desease unless Minorca is brought in to line. They are following the stance of their colleagues in Minorca, where two dead cows have been removed from farms without the prionics tests to detect mad cow being made. One of the Minorcan cows, aged nine, died on the Torre Calafat farm in Ciutadella yesterday, and the other died on ses Angoixes farm on Friday. Both carcasses are being stored in freezers and will be later incinerated as though they were specific risk material. Both farms belong to Joan Pons Anglada, who is also president of the Minorcan farming association Fagme. Yesterday he said: «after this precedent, I don't think another prionic test will ever be made in Minorca.». He added «we are creating a precedent in Spain and from now on I do not think that Minorcan farmers will let any tests be made on their herds».
