In the past year, the level of water consumption in Alcudia has risen by 201'676 cubic metres. According to the results of an environmental study published yesterday, the main reason for the sharp rise in water consumption is the 1'000 new inhabitants in the Alcudia area. But while the Alcudia water purification plant increased output from 2'732'810 cubic metres in 1999, to 3'512'257 cubic metres last year, the council says that there is still plenty of work to be done with areas such as Malpás, Sa Marina and part of es Barcarets still connected to an inadequate water supply network.
