Last month alone three of Britain's billionaires visited Majorca - one splashing out on a new yacht - and the man who tops the global list, Bill Gates, is expected to arrive any day to board a super luxury yacht while the “JCB” Bamford family will also be over this summer to stay at their Andratx home. Virgin tycoon Richard Branson owns the Hotel Residencia in Deya and a beautiful estate in Banyabulfar, where Sarah Ferguson and the Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie spent half term, with Branson and his family in the neighbouring villa. The Duke of Westminster and easyJet boss Stelios Haji–Ioannou also visited the island last month and, according to Forbes magazine, they are all in the billionaire rich list. However, Virgin billionaire Sir Richard Branson is half as rich as he was a year ago, according to an influential US magazine survey. The UK ranked 10th in the world, with 12 billionaires, with a combined wealth of $254bn, ahead of Russia, Saudi Arabia and Spain, which have eight billionaires each, but behind Mexico, with 13, Hong Kong, with 14, France, with 15, and Germany, with 28. Sir Richard has seen his personal fortune shrink by 1.05bn pounds, according to Forbes World Billionaires. Virgin Group, which is a privately–held company and not listed on the stock exchange, is worth $1.8bn, compared to $3.3bn a year ago, the magazine claims. The highest ranking British tycoon, the Duke of Westminster, came in at number 45 with 4.6 billion pounds - so buying the yacht of his childhood dreams in Palma was not too costly.
