The summer sales finally started in the Balearics yesterday, but for the hundreds of bargain-hunters who started queuing outside stores hours before doors opened, it felt more like the winter sales. However, the bad weather brought some cheer to shop keepers, as thousands of people, short of something to do, headed in to Palma to go shopping and commercial sources said yesterday that the indications for the summer sales are good. However, for many people in the north east of Majorca and Minorca, the morning was spent clearing up after yesterday's storms caused havoc. Minorca was still feeling the effects yesterday with over 56'000 people left without power for over an hour as the weather interrupted power supplies. Also, many parts of Majorca were hit by power failures throughout Sunday.
