The shopping mall under Palma's Plaça Mayor, which has been completely refurbished, was officially opened yesterday by deputy leader Pere Sampol, Mayor of Palma Joan Fageda and other dignitaries. According to the local owners and shopkeepers' association, a considerable sum of money has been spent on modernising the mall, as well as the Plaça Mayor steps. The money came from owners and shopkeepers, as well as the Balearic government and the city council. Entertainment at the inauguration was provided by a variety of acts, compered by Jaume Sureda. The opening was also attended by Antonia Allés, the director general of commerce, Lys Riera, the councillor in charge of health and consumer affairs, Xavier Rosselló and Josep Capó, the president and general secretary of PIMEM (small and medium sized businesses) respectively, and several members of the Llabrés Feliu construction company.
