Some of Hollywood's finest are heading for Majorca next week, confirming the island's star status. The list of celebrities is led by Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones, who will be joined by Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith at the Van Morrison concert at Costa Nord in Valldemossa. Banderas will be watching his brother compete in the King's Cup sailing regatta which starts on Tuesday. It is also widely rumoured that Michael Douglas will be presiding over the annual Palma to Lluc walk which takes places next Saturday. Away from Hollywood and turning to royalty, Queen Sofia of Spain will sail into Palma today (Sunday) aboard the sailing yacht Juan Sebastian Elcano. She will join her husband King Juan Carlos, heir to the throne Prince Felipe, and the Infanta Cristina, the Duchess of Palma de Mallorca. Already, on the island are super-model Claudia Schiffer, boyfriend Matthew Vaughn (producer of Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels), Home Secretary David Blunkett and a list of other minor celebrities. Majorca's star billing is clearly illustrated by the fact that on the island at the moment there are four separate British TV programmes. Majorca could not ask for better publicity. The island may be struggling on the tourist front but when it comes to celebrities it is booming. Yesterday, it was also reported that Tom Cruise could be sailing about the Balearics on the Talitha G. owned by British-based American billionaire John Paul Getty.
