Balearic leader Antich said yesterday that the worst that can happen this year is a five per cent fall in tourism. Antich said that without the tourist tax the Balearics' model for tourism of the future would be in danger, and said that those who are concerned about tourism of the present are fudging the figures. The tourist tax is still on course for its May 1 introduction and Antich said that if there is a fall in bookings in the UK, there is a quick process of recuperating the market. He sees the tourist tax as an important tool for improving the region's tourism industry, most of which he claims is positive about the tax.
