The Mayor of Calvia, Margarita Nájera, yesterday addressed members of Mexico's tourist industry at a conference in Cancun on tourism in the Balearics. Margarita Nájera is attending a United Nations conference for regional governments with a tourism-based economy. The Mayor of Calvia explained to her Mexican colleagues how the Balearic sustainable tourism model works and how Calvia council manages one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. She stressed the need to Mexico's tourist industry for a balance to be reached between the development of tourism and the protection of the environment.
