Drive to boost rural tourism

The Federation of Small Businesses and the Balearic Ministry for Tourism yesterday agreed to co-operate in a campaign to promote rural tourism. Before any concrete action is taken, a viability study will be carried out into the island's agro tourism sector, to establish how big demand is and what agro tourists want. In January, the Balearic agro tourism sector accounted for 20 per cent of Spain's 16.885 foreign agro tourists. In the Balearics, the authorities are thinking of creating a friends of agro tourism club which will entitle members to discounts while helping to establish a loyal and regular client base.
