This weekend the Palma-based charity organisation Cirujanos Plastikos Mundi will be holding its first golf tournament and gala dinner at the Marriot Golf Son Antem. The organisation, which was founded by the plastic surgeon Dr Francisco Buet the current president of the charity, is working in the Third World, Latin America and the Fourth World, providing vital medical care and treatment to children and adults. The charity specialises in reconstructive plastic surgery and all of the surgeons, some of which are the best in the world in their field, are working all over the world voluntarily. Cirujanos Plastikos Mundi is a relatively new charity but has already changed the lives of hundreds of children and adults across the world and the charity has also helped to set up hospitals and train local surgeons in parts of Africa and Latin America, so they can operate on their own in the long term and provide local communities with regular medical care, by using the very latest technology. All of the charity's surgeons are linked by e-mail and web cams to their key hospitals around the world. The majority of the operations, rebuilding a child's face for example, takes a great deal of time to prepare, so digital images are sent back to Spain and surgeons can prepare for the operations before flying out, thus wasting as little time and precious funding as possible. The charity is dedicated to helping disfigured children and adults smile again and this weekend at the Marriot Son Antem hotel, the foundation hopes to raise as much money as possible to continue raising smiles in the Third World and Latin America. The foundation is the only one of its kind in the Balearics and has already received a great deal of support from the local community. On Saturday the foundation's first golf tournmant will tee off and in the evening a gala dinner, presented by top television presenter, Mercedas Mila, will be held.
