The XVIII Conde de Barcelona regatta started yesterday in the bay of Palma. The internationally famlous classic yacht race will continue until Sunday and every day the Bay of Palma will be gleaming with some of the oldest and most beautiful yachts afloat. This year just over 50 yachts are taking part in the regatta organised by the Spanish Classic Yacht Foundation. Yahcts racing in the period group have to have been built before 1949, the classic yachts have to have been christened between January 1950 and December 1973. Replica yachts are accepted in each group, but they have to have been built in strict accordance with the original plans. The regatta rules stipulate that none of the crews can use any modern or technical instruments.
