I have visited Majorca every year for the past 27 years with my wife Lesley and daughter Alison (19) and son James (20). We have seen many changes to this beautiful island, some good, some bad, and will be special to us always. I set my heart on retiring in Puerto Pollensa and have monitored the cost of living, and property prices. Comparing to England Majorca has got very expensive and I am seriously looking at other parts of Spain to retire. As far as holidays it is cheaper to visit the Caribbean. I would like to add that I am not expecting a bargain in Majorca but over the years the prices have increased so much that it is no longer an option, the euro has not helped pushing up prices. We both have very good jobs here in England and live well owning two properties, if it effects us what about families that have children? The Majorcan government should be told that they are pricing themselves out of the market, probably due to such high increases in taxes. I have such sympathy for the Majorcan shop keepers who are suffering, I would like to wish all the people living on the Island especially the real Majorcans a Happy New Year. And of course not forgetting the readers of the Daily Bulletin.
