Iberia said yesterday that it is going to start reducing flight capacity by four per cent per kilometre in March on domestic and European routes as part of its Iraq war contingency plan. The airline has also delayed commissioning three new Airbus A320*s. Iberia said that the capacity reductions will make the airline more flexible and is similar to the company's response to the drop in demand after September 11. The airline's chairman Xavier de Irala said that this year is going to be difficult enough with or without war in Iraq.
Landslides close two roads
Two roads remained closed to traffic in Majorca yesterday because of rock falls and landslides. Guardia Civil Traffic department sources said that the heavy rain of the past few days is what has caused the rock falls which have closed the roads between Soller and Lluc and the viewpoint at Ses Barques and Coll de Sa Batalla. Early yesterday, a land slide inside the tunnel on the Son Servera to Capdepera road forced police to close the tunnel while enginneers cleared the road.
