THE Balearic socialist party has proposed using tourist tax funds to set up a concern which would contract unemployed workers to clean up beauty spots during the low season. This was announced as part of the election programme of the PSIB-PSOE (Balearic Socialist Party-Spanish Socialist Workers' Party).
A spokesman said that it would help the unemployment situation and improve the tourist offer.
Unemployment in the Balearics rises sharply in the autumn, as the tourist season ends and many hotels and bars close for the winter.
