THE massive clean-up operation continued yesterday with repair work also being carried out across the island to buildings and yachts damaged by Friday morning's storm. Teams of fire fighters and Civil Protection members armed with chain saws cut away at the scores of trees blown over by the tornado which ripped through the heart of Calvia and Palma before sweeping north east across the island towards Alcudia on Friday morning. The true extent of the damage will not be known until well into next week as firemen and builders worked round the clock yesterday repairing and shoring up damaged buildings ahead of the next front of gale force winds and heavy rains. Marinas, in particular Puerto Adriano, were being cleaned and the remains of yachts smashed by the winds removed as those parts of the island hit by the freak storm tried to return to normal. In the port of Portixol where a Balearic Port Authority employee was killed, the vessel that turned over when hit by a gust of wind and sudden surge in the sea level trapping him in the cabin underneath, remained moored up.
