SECURITY has been significantly stepped up in Palma ahead of the arrival of the Spanish royal family for their annual Easter holiday at Marivent Palace next week. With Spanish security forces on a heightened state of alert in the wake of the Madrid bombings, special police and the Guardia Civil started work on the Easter royal security operation over a week ago. A Guardia Civil maritime patrol boat was yesterday morning cruising off Marivent Palace while extra police can be found in the area around the palace and the Porto Pi naval base where the royal yacht is moored. Special police have already apparently checked and secured the Porto Pi shopping complex and surrounding area as they prepare to throw a ring of steel around the royals next week. It remains to be seen if Prince Felipe and his fiance Leticia Ortiz, the couple get married next month, will be joining the royals for Easter in Palma.
