News desk THE annual outdoor concert at the Torrente de Pareis will be given this year by the Lee Brown Gospel Consort, it was announced yesterday. The concert will be given on Sunday, July 11, at 5.30pm. A spokesman for Sa Nostra savings bank, which organises the concert, said that the group would offer an extensive selection of contemporary gospel songs, without a pre-established programme.

The Rvd Lee Brown, the leader of the group, had proposed “a symbolic and significative journey through the history of this style of music,” the spokesman said.

The concerts at the Torrente de Pareis started in 1964, at the initiative of artist Coll Bardolet, although they are now organised by Sa Nostra.
Initially, they were a minority event, but the majestic setting, fine accousics and the standard of the artists soon made them popular and they now attract more than a thousand people.

In 2002, I Fagiolini of Oxford became the first foreign group to perform at Torrente de Pareis in the Tramuntana mountains, and they were followed last year by the Swingle Singers.

The concert is free.
There will be a special boat service from the port of Soller to Torrent de Pareis and back, tying in with the train service.
