PALMA's Son Sant Joan airport operated 17'726 flights in May this year, 5.2 percent more than the same month in 2003. The installations increased their passenger-handling facility by 3.8 percent to reach 2'039'736 travellers.

According to the Spanish Airports Authority (AENA), airports across the country operated 181'054 flights last May, 1 percent more than the same month in 2003; 14'307'476 passengers used airport installations nationwide, 7.1 percent more than the same month in 2003, and 53'691 tonnes of freight were transported, 11.3 percent more.

Barajas airport in Madrid continues to be the most heavily used installation with 33'824 flights operated in May this year (5.7 percent more than the same month last year), followed by Barcelona with 25'201 (5% more); Palma de Mallorca with 17'726 (5.2% more); Malaga with 10'914 (2.6% more); Gran Canaria with 7'918 (0%); Alicante with 6'590 (6% more); Valencia with 6'525 (0.9% less).
