Staff Reporter THE Council of Majorca is to boost its tourist information service during the months of August and September, with two mobile centres. The units will tour the districts of the Island, offering visitors and local people advice on what there is to see and do. During the presentation of the project yesterday, director of Tourist Information on the Island, Josep Bestard, explained that the campaign forms part of the “Infomallorca.net” which includes a web page, and freely available promotional leaflets in tourist information offices and hotels.

Bestard confirmed that each mobile centre will have two computers so that people will be able to look up details on transport timetables, cultural visits, excursions and events celebrated around the Island in summer.

Two tourist information officers at each centre will help the public with their enquiries in Spanish, Catalan, English and German.
The director said that the centres will be set up “at key points where the service will be most used by the greatest number of people”. He specified that at the moment, it is planned to establish them in Palma (Parc de la Mar and Plaza Mayor), Muro, Alcudia and Andraitx.

Councillor Francesc Buils said that the promotion is not only aimed at tourists, but also at Majorcans, many of whom, he claimed, “are unaware of the leisure opportunities of their own Island”.

He added that the creation of these mobile information centres is a pilot scheme but it is planned for them to continue in summers to come.
