The man, wearing a jellabah, and partially covering his face with a blue and white T-shirt, entered the bank in Calle Palma shortly after 1pm and showed staff the shoebox, which had cables coming from it, resembling a home-made bomb.
Staff handed over 2'000 euros and the man made his getaway in a car, driving towards Palma, according to eyewitnesses, who said he was about 1.65 metres tall and had a moustache. Road blocks were set up but the man has not been caught.
The Guardia Civil believe that the shoebox was not really a bomb but the speed at which the raid took place and the nervous manner of the robber, as he shouted and pointed at it, were more than enough to convince staff and customers that it was real.
