MORE than 100 Harley Davidson motorbikes are due to attend the Hog Rock Festival at 9.30pm today. The event is organised by the Majorcan chapter of the Harley Owners Group and the Council of Majorca.

The popular event will be held in Consell, by the local school, the escoletas.
This will be their last meeting of the summer, “because we are on holiday”, the club's chairman Carles Pujol said, adding that he hoped rain wouldn't spoil their party as it did last year.

Yesterday he explained that the Hog Rock is “a meeting of friends” where they show off their skills on Harley Davidson bikes and play music, a combination which, Pujol said, “has awoken interest in the bikes in Majorca.” He said that the group in the Balearics is one of the biggest in Spain, and he calculates that there must be about 500 Harley Davidson bikes on the island. “The bike is like a person, its noise is organic,” Pujol said.
He stressed that the philosophy of a Harley Davidson biker is “to talk, learn and visit.” The event will include a concert with the groups Blues Devils, Hormigonera, Bike Show and Majorcan singer Jaumem Anglada, as well as an exhibition of bikes and a demonstration.

The association, which organises outings outside the island as well as in Majorca, has 150 members, who go on an excursion every Sunday, because, “there are still some beautiful places to see in Majorca.” Pujol said that the Harley Davidson spirit is “alive and well” and the best way to promote it was to “drive well and respect traffic on the island.” The next Harley Davidson rally will be next month, at the international festival of Castellon on the Peninsula, Pujol said.
The Majorcan chapter of the Harley Owners Group, which is based in Palma, has its own website, in Spanish, which gives details of its activities, at www.euromotospalma.com.
