NINE children and ten adults have died in Spain since 1991 aas a result of attacks by dogs since 1991.
The death of Francisco Miguel Hiraldo in Can Picafort in January 1999, after being attacked by an Argentine bulldog, opened up a debate throughout Spain on ownership of dangerous breeds of dogs.

The other child victims were Daniel Rogel, 20 days old, in Barcelona (retriever) in 1991; Marta Romero, two, in Tortosa (doberman) in 1992; Sergio Latasa, six, in Arazuri (boxer) in 1993; Sandra Rodriguez, 13, in Cervera, Lerida (doberman) in 1995; Beatriz P M, aged three, in Valencia (rottweiler); German girl aged 20 months, in Gran Canaria (Stafford) in 2000; baby aged 20 months, in Ciudad Real (German bulldog), in 2003.

In several cases the dog belonged to the child's parents or relatives.
