THE Royal Navy frigate, Campbeltown docked in Palma yesterday for a brief courtesy visit.
The type 22 frigate visited Palma earlier this year and obviously her crew of 250 enjoyed it so much they decided to return! Tonight, the frigate will be hosting a reception for local officials and members of the expatriate community and tomorrow her rugby team take on a local team in Palma. The Campbeltown is an extremely modern and capable vessel and her size and her excellent communications systems mean that she is well suited to act as a flagship. Her armament consists of Sea Wolf surface to air missiles, Harpoon surface to surface missile and the Goalkeeper anti-missile defence system. She is also equipped with a Lynx helicopter. The Campbeltown will remain in Palma until Sunday and crew are looking forward to rest and relaxation in Palma. Majorca is a very popular liberty port with ships of the Royal Navy.
