K Adult Education

CONSELL
Earlier this week, Consell town council unanimously approved the tender specifications of a contract to be awarded for the completion of an Adult Education Centre in Consell. It will be located in the same building as the Pensioners Association Centre.

The estimate for the reform and fitting out of the property is about 510'000 euros and includes, amongst other items, the creation of two multi-purpose halls to host a variety of activities. The project will be subsidized to the tune of 600'000 euros awarded through the Feder programme (50 percent with European funding and the remainder provided in equal parts by the Balearic government and the Town Council).

K Roundabout confirmed

INCA
The makeshift roundabout which provisionally controls traffic between Avenida Reis Catolics, the Plaza Mayor and the entry to the underground carparking area in Inca, will be completed once and for all before the celebration of Inca's Dijous Bo festival, this coming 18 November.

The mayor Pere Rotger recently explained that confirmation has been given by the Council of Majorca who will take charge of the necessary construction work at the request of Inca Town Council.

The roundabout had become a necessary feature when the underground carparking opened in the Plaza Mayor.
K Farmers' Cooperative

MURO
The Town Council in Muro has proposed to the proprietors of various country estates and farmland in the municipality, that they participate in a communal irrigation cooperative to make use of the water from the sewage treatment plant in Muro which could be channelled to irrigate their land.

On Tuesday this week, the Town Council called a meeting which was attended by Mayor's deputy Onofre Plomer, and various technicians from Tracsa, the company contracted by the central government Environment ministry to get the project up and running, as well as about 10 agriculturalists.

In principle, reported Plomer, it is calculated “that the joint surface area of the farmland and country estates which could benefit from the irrigation cooperative would be in the region of 120 cuarteradas (120 x 15'000 square metres). He went on to confirm that the Ministry could take responsibility for setting up infrastructure, installations and piping “in such a way that the proprietors would not have to provide any money of their own at the outset of the scheme”.

K Wine Production

PORRERES
In the light of the fact that so many small wine companies have emerged during the last few years on Majorca, Margalida Moner, regional minister for Agriculture and Fisheries paid a visit this week to the Jaume Mesquida wineries in Porreres.

The minister said “it is necessary to sit down and look at some system to regulate or unify the agreed standards for producing and trading in wine because the glut on the market could end up being counter-productive”.

Even so, Moner said that nothing concrete has as yet been done but it was an idea which needs addressing. Years ago, there were only 5 or 6 wine houses on the island but now there are nearer 30.
