K Not so green

CALVIA
THE Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE) in Calvia has complained about the state of many of the green zones in the municipality. The worst are in Santa Ponsa, Son Ferrer, Palma Nova and Magalluf, a spokesman said. Lack of maintenance means that some of the green zones are dangerous for children playing there. He singled out Calo d'en Pellicer in Santa Ponsa, where there is rubbish and abandoned cars next to the children's playground.

K Mushroom fair

MANCOR
THE first wild mushroom fair held in Mancor last year was such a success that it will be repeated this year and will be held over two days instead of one. The dates are November 27 and 28. In addition to the exhibits, there will be live music and Majorcan dancing.

K Tip closed

MARIA DE LA SALUT
COUNCIL workmen have cleaned and closed the selective collection rubbish tip because the council has been unable to stop the uncontrolled dumping of all kinds of rubbish there.

K Transport woes

CAPDEPERA
THE town council unanimously approved a motion to declare the transport company Aumasa non grata in the municipality because of complaints by neighbours about the poor service and allegations that it does not comply with the list of conditions in its contract. A council spokesman said that the bus company “did not keep to its time tables, have the required bus stops and the vehicles were not in conditions to offer a good service.” The council will ask the Balearic government to revise the concession.

K Budget approved

POLLENSA
THE town council has finally approved its budget for 2004, which stands at 16.5 million euros. The budget had been blocked since last July, when it was approved, but a few days later the socialists and council workers filed an appeal. The delay in approving the budget meant that the council has been unable to contract major works such as the construction of the new tourism office. The office will be built in the Moll (port) near the taxi rank.

K Bigger school

SINEU
THE town council is negotiating the purchase of a house next to the Escola Graduada, so that it can enlarge the school which is now too small for needs. The purchase price is believed to be in the region of 300'000 euros. It would provide two extra classrooms and a recreation area. At the moment, some of the classes have to double up.
